This post is for my readers in the Monroe, Mich., area:

The Mobile Food Pantry will make a stop from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday Dec. 21 at Custer Elementary School, 5003 W. Albain Rd., Monroe, Mich., with free food packages for the first 300 eligible families.

Those who wish a food package should note that the criteria for this one is different than with most Monroe County mobile food pantries. To be eligible, a parent or guardian must be present, the children must attend one of the Monroe Public Schools, and be eligible for the Federal food Subsidy program or be a “family in transition.”

Families do not need to register in advance; however, they do need to bring a form to the event that will be available at any of the participating Monroe Public Schools starting Monday Dec. 16. Forms also will be sent home from school to students in the lower grades.

Each family picking up a food package also must show a driver’s license or school ID card to prove Monroe County residency.

The event is sponsored by Walmart Foundation, Monroe County Opportunity Program and Monroe Public Schools.
