Organizers will give out 10,000 free tickets to the 2009 MAC championship game Saturday, Nov. 21 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Gate A outdoor ticket window on Brush Street in downtown Detroit. Two free tickets will be available to each person who can present a Michigan unemployment debit card and government-issued ID, valid military ID or United Auto Workers badge.

Here are two more Veteran’s Day restaurant offers that the Detroit Free Press has posted about, and a local reader pointed out to me that there are locations nearby:

• Outback Steakhouse has a free blooming onion for all veterans and active duty military today. Locations includes Southgate, Toledo and Ann Arbor.
• Texas Roadhouse has free lunch or dinner for military personnel. Locations include Toledo and Taylor.

Do be sure to bring your military ID or other proof of service if you want to participate in Veteran’s Day offers.

Also read the fine print for each special because the details of who qualifies will vary based on the sponsor. Some are for veterans only, some will be for active duty, the Guard and Reserve members qualify for some offers but not others, some are including firefighters and law enforcement officers, etc.

“This is our way of saying thank you to the brave men and women that serve their country; their community and their fellow Americans,” the store says on its web site.

Be ready to provide your employee ID, badge or other proof of eligibility for this, and other discounts, that are based on where you work.

This is one of the few military scholarships that children of reserve and guard families qualify for. You don’t have to live on or near a military base, although the application process is handled through the commissaries such as the one at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Michigan.

If the child is a registered military family dependent in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, has a current military ID card, has a grade point average of 3.0 or better, and plans to attend college on a full-time basis, he or she can apply. My daughter won one of the 2007 scholarships from this program (Her father / my ex-husband serves in the Army Reserves.)

Huron-Clinton Metroparks will waive vehicle entry fees and boat launch fees on Nov. 11 in honor of Veteran’s Day.

The park district includes 13 sites in a five-county area of southeast Michigan including Lake Erie Metropark, Oakwoods Patropark and Willow Metropark.

The Lambertville Post 9656, Veterans of Foreign Wars, will host a Veteran’s Day dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 11 at the post hall, 4120 Piehl Rd., Lambertville, Mich.

This dinner is free for veterans with valid ID card. Friends, family and the general public are also invited with the dinner cost at $7 for adults and $3.50 for children.

The menu will be roast turkey, roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, bread and butter, carrots, cranberries and an assortment of desserts.

The VFW post hosts this dinner as a thank you to veterans.

The Detroit Pistons will host a Military Salute Night with the Wednesday Nov. 11 game against Charlotte Bobcats. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Current members and veterans of all branches of the United States Armed Services can get a free game ticket. Friends and family can purchase upper level tickets to the game at $11 per person, with $1 of each ticket supporting the Team Selfridge Family Relief Fund.
