It's been over 10 years since I worked as a newspaper reporter in northwest Ohio, so I no longer have the contacts across the state line that I once did. The most practical web sites I can refer local readers to are written specifically for Michigan residents such as Julie's List and the Michigan Job Search Blog.

My contribution is in the frugal living tips that help families get by when the income drops. That's why I have a lot of Ohio readers, despite the specifically Michigan content.

There is also an eggo waffle shortage. So, if you eat waffles covered in canned pumpkin, you are in trouble.

This is for public consumption.

If she really wanted something done, she wouldn't have signed the budget. There is zero leverage anymore. She should have shut the state down.

It is just Libby's. Other brands are fine and Ohio had a bumper crop of pumpkins this year. Our local farm market is selling at 50 cents each right now.

Paula, Luckily my way of shopping is to stock up on deals as I encounter them. Last year, a pricier grocer has One Pie (a Maine company) brand pumpkin and butternut squash 15 oz cans clearanced at 79/can. I bought 24 each, gifting some to Mom and Dad. Add the homemade pumpkin purée out of last year and this year's Halloween front porch pumpkins, and we have plenty on hand for pies, muffins, bars, breads, waffles, pancakes, etc. I also have picked up a few slightly dented Libby's canned pumpkin from another grocery store, who reduces damaged goods 50% off. Having been raised in a family of grocers, I know what is still safe to use, and I cherry pick accordingly, making sure to use these less than perfect cans up first. Local pumpkin crops here were dismal, including our failed attempts to grow our own this year. Not a surprise to officially hear of a shortage. Wise advise to plan out one's needs and stock up accordingly.

Thanks Paula,

Your right, it is to bad. What are some of those old sayings? "It's always something" or "If anything can go wrong, it will." I hope my misfortune is someone else's good fortune.

It really doesn't matter what happened at the radio station, I guess that's "water under the bridge." I'm still responsible for my family so I have to find something.

Thanks for the Michigan's Job Fair link but I really need to find something local to Toledo. My mother and wife are disabled and I cannot venture any farther away than across town.

If nothing else, I will pray for the one vet I saw at the Union Station who was obviously limping because of the loss of a leg. He was about 25 years old, 5' 6" tall, dark hair, cut high and tight on the sides and 2" long on the top. He was well dressed in a gray suit and you could tell by the look on his face that he is a determined young man. If I were in the position to give anyone employment, he would be my first choice.

That's too bad. I don't know what happened at the radio station.

In the meantime, here is a database for Michigan job fairs. http://tinyurl.com/2kojze I'm not sure of an equivalent database for Ohio - and it's a hit and miss as to which northwest Ohio notices get cc'd to The Monroe Evening News in Monroe, Mich.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend because of bad information broadcast on WRQN radio station on Sunday November 8th. @ 8:00 a.m. The young lady representing the Job Fair broadcasting on the radio, stated that the Job Fair opened at 8:30 when in reality it opened at 10:00. I had a made another appointment at 10:00 a.m. Misinformation can change the course of your life. I hope they get it right next time. I am really unhappy that I based my schedule on bad information.

That sounds so much like me! I've tried to make the multiple meals all at one time, but wasn't impressed enough to make a habit of it. However, I did make about a dozen meals or so at one time when my mom was hospitalized and couldn't cook for my dad. It was great being able to take over a week's worth of meals for them, ready to heat and serve.
