Weddings on a budget

You’ll find articles, announcements of Monroe County bridal fairs, and other blog posts of interest to soon-to-be wed couples, at Monroe on a Budget under category keyword: weddings.
I’ve got stories on a couple who had a religious ceremony with no commercial frills, bridesmaids who recycled their prom or previous bridesmaids dresses for a budget wedding, and why your first call needs to be to the church or wedding location.
In the meantime, here are some blog articles and Internet sites you may want to check out:
- WedFrugal.com – An entire site dedicated to practical tips and ideas on how to have a lovely wedding on a small budget.
- WedCheaper.com – Also an entire site dedicated on weddings on a budget. The tips include the logistics of hosting a backyard / “garden” wedding. There’s also a column called “weird weddings.”
- Shoestring Brides – This site is hosted by a bride who has been there, done that. “I survived to tell the tale!” she says on her home page. The tips include when to NOT to do it yourself and hire a pro.

My biggest tip to anyone planning a wedding is this: Pick the one thing you really want to focus on as part of your wedding day.
What do you want to remember, what have you always wanted to include in your wedding, or what do you want your guests to talk about? Is it the ring? the dress? the location? the religious service? the honeymoon? special people to be among your attendants? the cake? the dinner? the photography? the music?
Make arrangements for that purchase or service first.
It will then be much easier to make budget-friendly decisions for the rest of your wedding.
