Stonyfield Farm is recalling 6-oz. containers of fat-free blueberry yogurt because of reports of pieces of glass or plastic in the product.

Uncooked chicken breasts distributed by an Ohio firm are being recalled because they were labeled as pre-cooked and they’re not.

About 113,000 Avon plush polar bears that contain a warming pouch are being recalled because the pouch can get too hot when warmed in a microwave oven and either burn consumers or start a fire.

Feds outline plans to battle online scams

The Federal Trade Commission issued a report outlining the steps it plans to take to protect consumers from online fraud in the years ahead, including closer cooperation with governments of other countries where online scammers sometimes are based.

Total Body Formula bad for one’s body

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to discard any bottles of Total Body Formula and Total Body Mega Formula, a drink marketed by an Atlanta firm to various states, including Michigan.

Apparently it contains excessive amounts of selenium, a nutritional supplement that’s fine in small amounts but toxic in large quantities. Consumers have experienced hair loss, nausea and other unpleasant side effects.

Rock N Ride toys are fall hazard

About 122,000 Rock N Ride plush rocker toys that talk are being recalled because the base can detach and cause the tot riding them to fall.

Some Mercedes being recalled

A faulty transistor has led to the recall of about 3,300 2008 Mercedes-Benz S Class luxury cars.“A malfunction may occur on the signal acquisition and actuation module” that controls vehicle some vehicle functions, including the center console lighting, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The transistors were improperly stored and exposed to excess humidity which can affect their functioning and increase the risk of a crash, according to NHTSA.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will inspect and replace the transistors free of charge when the recall begins in May.

FDA says avoid Blue Steel and Hero products

The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers against using “Blue Steel” and “Hero” dietary supplements because they contain undeclared drugs that could cause blood pressure and other health problems. The advisory can be found here.

Feds move against pre-paid phone card firm

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking a court order to keep Clifton Telecard Alliance One from further marketing of its pre-paid phone cards at gas stations, convenience stores and other venues, including its own Web site.

The feds contend that the cards — marketing under many names, including Original Gold, TX Gold and Miami Gold — mislead purchasers into believing the cards do not entail connection fees and consumers are greatly shortchanged on the amount of calling minutes the cards supposedly provide.
