Feds move against pre-paid phone card firm

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking a court order to keep Clifton Telecard Alliance One from further marketing of its pre-paid phone cards at gas stations, convenience stores and other venues, including its own Web site.

The feds contend that the cards — marketing under many names, including Original Gold, TX Gold and Miami Gold — mislead purchasers into believing the cards do not entail connection fees and consumers are greatly shortchanged on the amount of calling minutes the cards supposedly provide.
