Nissan trucks have air bag flaw

Nissan is recalling more than 240,000 trucks in 20 cold-weather states, including Michigan, to fix a problem that could prevent front air bags from deploying in a crash.
The recall affects 2005-2009 models of the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra.
In states where winter road salt is used, a mixture of snow, water and salt could enter a crrash sensor area and rust, interrupting the signal and preventing the air bag from working. A red air bag warning light should come on to signal the potential malfunction, however.
The trucks were sold or currently registered in the District of Columbia and Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin, as well as Michigan.
Owners will be told of the recall by mail later this month and dealers will install a redesigned sensor at no cost.
Owners may contact Nissan at (800) 647-7261.
