Haier blender blades might break

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

More than 53,000 Haier blenders are being recalled because the blades in the blender might break apart and cut users. The company has received more than 60 reports of blades breaking apart.
The blenders have been sold at general merchandise stores since 2006.

Cook those chickens!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009

A lot of the chickens purchased at grocery stores are contaminated with bacteria. At least that’s what the most recent testing by Consumer Reports found. The consumer advocacy agency determined that about two-thirds of store-bought chickens were tainted with salmonella or campylobacter, illness-causing strains. That might not be too surprising since chickens are, after all, critters and one wouldn’t expect that the product of a slaughterhouse would be sterile. It’s also encouraging that the extent of contamination is less than found during the previous round of Consumer Reports testing.
The lesson here might be that you have to make sure a chicken is fully cooked. If it isn’t, you can assume your ingesting some level of residual bacteria.
