Wednesday, December 1st, 2010Seen that kind of posting on Twitter or Facebook accounts? Some people can resist telling their “friends” about their upcoming holiday travel plans.
But broadcasting your upcoming travel via social networks can come with a cost.
The London Daily Mail reports that some British insurance companies now consider Twitter and Facebook postings when deciding whether to pay burglary claims. The idea is if you tell your social network world when you’re leaving town, you have at least some liability for any losses that might befall you.
It can be considered part of a legal concept called “contributory negligence,” essentially meaning your actions increased your risk of loss.
It might be wiser to post reports of your travels after you return.
