Gary,
I think you're really overestimating this Piston team. There are at least
four or five teams that are better than the Pistons. I don't believe they will make it past the first seven playoff games. They lack the ability to go to someone every game who will carry them through. They don't have anyone who they can rely on night after night. No Kobe or Lebrons They also do not have the every night consistency of an Allen,
Pierce or Garnett, as their last defeat showed.
You can shout at the end
of the season like us Cub fans do. "wait till next year."

yo...I was listening to Valenti and Foster talk about that game and listening to them entertain the idea that we should play our starters more minimally seemed to me like a intruiging but overall bad idea for the simple fact that it's good to see what gives the Pistons problems against teams they will face in the playoffs. Obviously now Joe D and Flip can see that Rondo has no trouble being a huge spark for the Celtics against Billups because he's faster and since he's aggressive and falls down on every shot, he also gets the calls. I actually think Stuckey's defense or even Lindsey Hunter could give him problems, it's just going to be tough to take Billups out for long periods of time if they do meet in the playoffs because of his leadership role. It seemed in that game that we also saw that Amir has alot of trouble guarding Garnett though body size and athletically they aren't that different, Garnett is just to smart and Amir will collect fouls quick. I think Flip has been doing an excellent job giving our rookies and newer guys minutes without tanking anything, now we know that Amir can actually play, and that Stuckey's defense just might be better than his offense though he was orinally supposed to score. His assist to turnover ratio is also really good for being a rook at 2.18. Unless there is only a few games left to play and Billups and the crew is looking tired, I say we also don't sit our starters just to see what we may have in the future...at least not yet.

Good thoughts here Gary. The only thing I'd change is you last line,
"we'll see in June," to "we'll see in April." They better figure it our quick or there won't be a May let alone a June. They had to make this move though as it it allows them the "potential" for a half court game. As you are well aware the playoff, and certianly the championship series, is about two three things 1)Defense 2)More defense 3)Half court offense.
The Sun had none. The only questions is did they make this move too late. Is a motivated Shaq going to get in shape in a month and a half and can the Sun transition to playing 24 mins a game of half court offense? Also, you have rightly pointed out a potential problem with all this in their limited ability o shoot. Should be interesting.

Hey Gary,
I enjoy your blog. This was a big game and this is becoming
the rivalry of the year, I think. The Pistons continue to
be a great team with one glaring problem. That being this; they
have no go to guy down the streach and their offense turns
to stand and shoot or one guy to the hole. If you look at
their playoff losses over the recent years since winning the title
you'll find the same thing over and over. The game coming
to a close and the Pistons offense turning to nothing.

The Celtics, as with Cleveland last year, have no such problem.
Our team is better but when the game is ending, and all NBA games
are purely last two min games, against the better teams we are
at a disatvantage. (Especially if R. Wallace is throwing a tantrum)

Keep up the good work Gary

The should beat teams like the Grizz!! How about the two largest schools in the county struggling in Boys Hoops!
The change in coaches hasn't helped either team it would seem. Maybe it is time for Monroe to change leagues. They haven't been able to compete in the Mega Red for a few years. Coach Barnes first season with the Nick Notario group was the last team to overachieve. A lack of overall talent in a schoo this large is alarming. Kids have a lot of competition for their attention but it should be better. Football is number one at Monroe but when I played we were just as big. I am not suggesting the Huron League but Monroe needs to explore its options. The football program has proven it can play with and beat anyone, it is time for the basketball program to get on par.

Hi Gary,

I thought of you last when I watched last nights game. While it wasn't a huge statement win, it puts Boston in their place for the time being. I also think its crap how fans in the Detroit area can be so worried about the Lions while the success of the Pistons and Redwings is largely ignored. These teams are doing awesome right now and it seems that theres just not that much buzz for the success of the teams. Hope your doing well. Talk to you later.
