Don’t call it a comeback…

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Several bands are returning to the spotlight after taking time off.
After more than a year off, Weezer is back. The layoff was due to frontman Rivers Cuomo  getting an English degree at Harvard. They are currently working on songs for their sixth album, which is due out in the beginning of 2008. The untitled album will follow-up their 2005 release of “Make Believe.”
The British band “The Verve” is back as well. The band has called a truce and is launching a new website and is back in the recording studio working on their next album. No details have been released yet about the album, or when it will be released. Their website is located at www.theverve.tv.
Remember the Squirrel Nut Zippers? They’re back and are working on a new album, too. It will be their first one since 2000’s “Bedlam Ballroom.”  They took a hiatus in 2001 due to tour exhaustion and being frustrated by lawsuits with a former manager and bandmates.
They’re best known for the hit single, “Hell,” from its 1997 album called “Hot.”

Rosie not ‘right’ for TPIR

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Good news for you Rosie haters out there.

Rosie O’Donnell says she won’t be taking the hosting job at “The Price is Right.” Even though she is a big fan of the game show, she said she’s not willing to uproot her family and move to California. She lives in New York.

I already miss Bob. Do you think he’s willing to come back? I wish!

Movie news

Friday, June 22nd, 2007

–Tom Cruise and Carice Van Houten will star in “Valkyrie.” The World War II drama is based on the true life attempts to assassinate Adolf Hitler. Shooting begins next month in Berlin.

–Owen Wilson will star in the Ben Stiller-directed comedy “Tropic Thunder.” Nick Nolte also is part of the cast of the war-themed comedy. The movie is about a group of actors who go on location to shoot a war movie but finds that reality is mimicking their plot.

Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Brandon Jackson, Steve Coogan, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Jay Baruchel, Matt Levin and Andrea De Oliveira have all been cast already.

–Jack Black will team up with “Old School” and “Road Trip” director Todd Phillips in the comedy “Man-Witch.”

Black will play a school teacher who finds out he has witch-like abilities. He enlists in a school for witches, only to find that the students are all girls.

–Ben Stiller may possibly star in the movie “In Deep.” Stiller is producing the story, but it’s unknown if he’ll actually take the lead role. The movie is about a man who tries to fight a parking ticket and becomes increasingly entangled in criminal allegations.

–Kate Hudson will join Dane Cook in “Bachelor No. 2.” It’s about a man who takes women out on nightmare dates so they can realize that the guys they just dumped are actually good guys. There is trouble, however, when the man is hired to take out his best friend’s ex-girlfriend.

Shooting begins in August in Boston.

–Adam Sandler and Mitch Albom are teaming up for a movie. Albom, author of “The Five People You Meet in Heaven” and “Tuesdays with Morrie,” sold the rights to his feature film writing debut to Sony, with Sandler set to produce and star in a baseball comedy.

However, the project doesn’t seem to be at the top of Sandler’s list. His next project is “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan,” and he was recently attached to the Disney family comedy, “Bedtime Stories.”

A movie version of the former HBO show “Sex and the City” is still a possibility. It is rumored that HBO officials are quietly putting plans together for the big screen version, and that the project is said to be in a discussion phase with distributors.

The movie was supposed to happen in 2003, but it never came to fruition.

Stars of the show – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon – supposedly have said they are ready to close the chapter on the show.

Top movie results are in!

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

Did you catch last night’s show of AFI’s top 100 movies of all time? In case you missed it, here’s the top 10:
1. Citizen’s Kane
2. The Godfather
3. Casablanca
4. Raging Bull
5. Singin’ in the Rain
6. Gone with the Wind
7. Lawrence of Arabia
8. Schindler’s List
9. Vertigo
10. Wizard of Oz
There are some very questionable rankings in their top 100. For example, Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas didn’t make the top 90, and the Sixth Sense barely did by placing 89th.
Forest Gump, Silence of the Lambs and Shawshank Redemption were all placed in the 70’s – what an outrage! These are all classic movies. Shawshank is a top 5 movie!!
Other ranking that have me baffled are Saving Private Ryan, 71st; A Clockwork Orange, 70; Deer Hunter, 53, and Taxi Driver, 52.  Keep in mind that  movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, MASH, and Network beat out ALL the movies mentioned above…I know. I don’t get it either.
Okay, now that I vented a little bit, let’s hear your thoughts on the list. Did you agree with their picks? What do you think of the top 10?

What’s the greatest movie ever?

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

The American Film Institute (AFI) will be giving its opinion of the top 100 greatest movies of all time during a TV special on Wednesday.

Morgan Freeman will host AFI’s 100 years…100 movies – 10th Anniversary Edition at 8 p.m. Wednesday on CBS. Special appearances include Harrison Ford, Martin Sheen, Martin Scorsese, Halle Berry, and many more.

My guess is that the number one movie will either be The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Shawshank Redemption, or Casablanca.

It’s hard to pick THE best movie of all-time, but some of my favorites are The Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, Wizard of Oz, The Departed, Star Wars, Taxi Driver, Halloween …okay, I guess I could go on forever here. There’s too many to mention, I just can’t pick one!

What are your favorites? What do you think will be number one?

On Thursday, I’ll give you a rundown on what they picked in case you miss it.

“Lost” will not end like “Sopranos”

Friday, June 15th, 2007

If you didn’t like the finale of Sopranos, and you’re also a Lost fan, then don’t worry about a copycat ending.

Lost producers re-assured its fans that they’re going to tie up all the loose ends and not have a controversial ending like the HBO mob show. (Thank God!)

The creators of Lost said there will be no unresolved ending. Creators said the ending will be a logical conclusion to the story.

Lost will end in spring, 2010, after 48 hour-long episodes – 16 per season.
