Top movie results are in!
Did you catch last night’s show of AFI’s top 100 movies of all time? In case you missed it, here’s the top 10:
1. Citizen’s Kane
2. The Godfather
3. Casablanca
4. Raging Bull
5. Singin’ in the Rain
6. Gone with the Wind
7. Lawrence of Arabia
8. Schindler’s List
9. Vertigo
10. Wizard of Oz
There are some very questionable rankings in their top 100. For example, Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas didn’t make the top 90, and the Sixth Sense barely did by placing 89th.
Forest Gump, Silence of the Lambs and Shawshank Redemption were all placed in the 70’s – what an outrage! These are all classic movies. Shawshank is a top 5 movie!!
Other ranking that have me baffled are Saving Private Ryan, 71st; A Clockwork Orange, 70; Deer Hunter, 53, and Taxi Driver, 52. Keep in mind that movies like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, MASH, and Network beat out ALL the movies mentioned above…I know. I don’t get it either.
Okay, now that I vented a little bit, let’s hear your thoughts on the list. Did you agree with their picks? What do you think of the top 10?

Well, it seems to me that a lot of these picks were dominated by the ‘antiquity’ factor–the canon of American film demands a lot of respect for the earliest of the greats. Would most people rank a lot of more recent films higher than, say, Citizen’s Kane? Probably. Old favorites die hard, I guess.
