MOVIES
Johnny Depp will be in another movie from a Hunter S. Thompson novel. They are making “The Rum Diary” – a 1959 novel – into a movie. Depp will star and produce the movie, which will be loosely based on Thompson’s experience working as a freelance journalist in Puerto Rico in the late 1950’s.
Depp will play a reporter at a struggling San Juan newspaper, where an erotic love triangle emerges. No dates the film has been set.
Depp starred in another Thompson novel adaptation, “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” in 1998.

It was recently announced that “The Sopranos – Season 6, Part 2” DVD will be released on Oct. 23. It includes a 4-DVD box set that includes extras.

MUSIC
Led Zeppelin will release three new titles in the fall. On Nov. 13, they will release a 2-disc, 24-track best of “Mothership.” It’s a deluxe re-issue of the soundtrack to the 1976 concert film, ‘The Song Remains the Same” with previously unreleased material and a new DVD edition of that movie will arrive Nov. 20. Along with that, the album will be available with a DVD featuring live content from previously released “Led Zeppelin DVD.”
“The Song Remains the Same” soundtrack will include six songs not included on the original album, such as Black Dog,” Over the Hills and Far Away, Misty Mountain Top, Since I’ve Been Loving You, The Ocean, and Heartbreaker.

TELEVISION
The following is a list of TV premieres this week:
–“Masters of Science Fiction” will debut at 10 p.m. Saturday on ABC
–“The Company” will air at 8 p.m. Sunday on TNT. It’s a three-part, six-hour miniseries following Cold War CIA agents. It’s based on the 2002 novel by Robert Littell.
–“Fat March,” a reality show on losing weight, begins at 9 p.m. Monday on ABC
–“Mission: Man Band” is a reality show that begins at 10 p.m. Monday on VH1
–“The Rock Life” reality show premieres at 10:30 p.m. Monday on VH1.
–The game show, “Power of 10,” premieres at 8 p.m. Tuesday on CBS.
–“Dirty Jobs” will air the Mackinac Bridge episode at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the Discovery Channel. It will showcase the work that bridge maintenance crews perform each year on the bridge. It airs in conjunction with the bridge’s 50-year anniversary.
–“I-Caught” begins at 10 p.m. Tuesday on ABC.
–“Flash Gordon” is a Sci Fi Channel series set to premiere at 9 p.m. Aug. 10.
LOCAL EVENTS
–The Monroe County Fair continues through Saturday. Some of the upcoming events include Tractor Pulling, Monster Truck, and the Combine Demolition Derby.
–“Jazz in the Square” will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday at the pavilion at Loranger Square, located in downtown Monroe.
–Former channel 7 news anchor Frank Turner will be the main speaker for the first two nights of the Monroe Area-Wide Tent Revival. The revival will be held from Friday to Aug. 19 at the Old Detroit Stoker Parking Lot on Front St., across from Hellenberg Park in Monroe. Services begin at 7 p.m. each night and will also include 10:30 a.m. services on Sundays. It’s multi-denominational and multi-ethnic, and open to the public. For more information, call 384-9596.
REGIONAL EVENTS
–“Ribs on the River 2007” will be held Friday through Sunday at Promenade and Festival Parks in Toledo. Times are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
–Ribfest begins today through Saturday. It includes national and local rib vendors, and features entertainment and other activities. For more information, call (269) 388-2830.
–Lansing JazzFest will be held Friday and Saturday in Lansing. More than 20 local, regional and national acts will perform. For more information, call (517) 371-4600.
–Dearborn Homecoming Festival is a three-day event that draws crowds of up to 250,000. Held Friday through Sunday, it includes entertainment on multiple stages, kids events, food, carnival and a fireworks display on Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call (313) 943-2350.
–The Manchester Riverfolk Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to midnight in Manchester, on Saturday. Artists, workshops, food, and other events to be held. Carr Park is located at 585 W. Main St.
–14th annual garage sales will feature over 100 garage sales in the Library Village in Toledo. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Library Village includes the following streets: Lewis Ave., Eleanor Ave. Sylvania Ave., and Jackman Rds.
