I’m going back to Indiana…

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

If you’re a TV and history buff, you may not mind a short drive to Indiana.

At the Northern Indiana Center for History in South Bend, Ind., they have a multi-media presentation called “Chaning Channels.” The exhibit explores how TV interprets history; the past, present and future of TV technology; TV’s place in reporting memorable events; a review of famous/favorite commercials, and highlights from shows like I Love Lucy, Star Trek, and MASH.

It also features some other cool things, like the postal uniform worn by Cliff Clavin from Cheers and the microphone from the very first American Bandstand used by Dick Clark in 1956.

The exhibit is open through Feb. 29 at Northern Indiana Center for History, 808 W. Washington St., South Bend. It’s in the downtown area, only 10 minutes south of I-80/90.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

For directions or more information, visit www.centerforhistory.org.

Shocking ‘Dancing’ elmination

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

This came as a total shock: Cheetah Girl Sabrina Bryan, a heavy favorite to at least make the finals in ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ was voted off last night. If you missed it, the crowd groaned and booed, and the host even said it was wrong. The judges were left scratching their heads, too.

So much for a Helio vs. Sabrina matchup in the finals.

If you were a big fan of hers, will you still watch the show? Are you too devasted by this turn of events?

Best horror flicks? You decide

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I just read an article by John Whitehead of the Rutherford Institute. Since its Halloween time, he talked about vampires.

He discussed the myth and the legend of vampires, and how the world has been fascinated by them for hundreds of years. He then goes on to discuss his favorite vampire movies, with Nosferatu (1922) being first on his list. Others include Dracula (1931), Fright Night (1985), and the Lost Boys (1987).

To read the entire article, go to www.rutherford.org and click on “We are the children of the night” on the top of the page.

Along the same lines, I also came across the “50 best-reviewed horror movies” list at www.rottentomatoes.com. Reviews about your favorite movies are on the list, along with some you probably didn’t expect.

If you get a chance, check out both of these stories and let me know what you think. What would be your number one vampire flick? What is your top horror movie of all-time?

(Mine is the original Halloween movie. The suspense and music creep me out. I still can’t watch it alone!)

MOVIE NEWS

–A day before shoottinb began on “The Lovely Bones,” Ryan Gosling backed out of his role. Mark Wahlberg stepped in to replace him. Gosling left the film after gaining 20 pounds and growing a beard for the part. He left the movie because of creative differences.

The movie is being directed by Peter Jackson, and is an adaptation of the Alice Sebold novel. Wahlberg will play Jack Salmon, a grieving father of a young girl. He joins Rachel Weisz as a couple whose world is shattered after their daughter is murdered. The girl watches over her family and killer from heaven.

Wahlberg is a busy man these days. He just finished shooting “The Happening” by M. Night Shyamalan, and recently committed to star with Brad Pitt in “The Fighter.”

Eva Longoria will star in a comedy set in an elementary school. Jason Biggs and Rob Cordry also will star. The film will be released next year.

–Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris have chosen not to come back and write a sequel to last year’s Superman. The sequel is in limbo, and probably won’t come out until 2010.

Anthony Hopkins is going to play Alfred Hitchcock in a film. No other details about the movie are available. (I think he’s a great choice - can’t wait to see it).

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are teaming up for another movie. They will make “Shutter Island” next year. It’s an adaptation from a Dennis Lahane novel.
