LOCAL EVENTS

–Extra Stout, an Irish Pub Band, will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at St. Mary’s Park. The free event includes food provided by McGeady’s Town Pub.

–The Milan Community Fair runs through Saturday and includes carnivals, merchant tents and entertainment. Fireworks at 10 p.m. Friday. The free event is in downtown Milan.

–A Gun and Knife Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the MBT Expo Center at Monroe County Fairgrounds, 3775 S. Custer Rd. $6 for adults; 12 and younger free.

–Live pro wrestling “Monroe Mania” will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Monroe Multi Sports Complex, 333 N. Dixie Hwy.

–Movie in the Park, “The Bee Movie.” It will be shown at 8 p.m. Saturday at Willow Metropark, 32911 Huron River Dr., New Boston. It is free.

–The 3rd annual Flint Fund Softball Tournament and Family Cookout will be all day Saturday and Sunday at St. Charles Catholic Church, 8109 Swan Creek Rd., Newport.

REGIONAL EVENTS

–The 4th annual Mexican American Fiesta will be Friday and Saturday on Broadway Street, between Walbridge and Western, in Toledo. It will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

–The Stars and Stripes Festival will be held Friday through Sunday in downtown Mt. Clemens. Over 75 performs will take stage, including Uncle Cracker, Everclear, and Sponge. For details, visit www.starsandstripesfest.com.

–The 50th annual “Fiesta Mexicana!” will be held Sunday through Tuesday in Flint. Tons of activities and entertainment. Cost is $3 each and those ages 12 and younger are free.

–Toledo Collector’s Mini Toy Show is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Lucas County Recreation Center, 2901 Key St., Maumee, Ohio. Admission is $5.

–International Gem and Jewelry Show is Friday through Sunday at Rock Financial Showplace, 46100 Grand River Blvd., Novi. It’s being held from noon to 6 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Cost is $7.

TV NEWS

–The UFC is matching up middleweight champion Anderson Silva and light heavyweight James Irvin for a light heavyweight fight on July 19. It will air live on Spike TV.

–Janet Jackson is getting her own reality TV show (who isn’t these days?). She is developing a music competition reality show for MTV. The winner could end up a part of Jackcon’s upcoming world tour. The untitled project begins Sept. 10.

–VH1 will be a part of the Nelson Mandela birthday celebration. It will be the exclusive U.S. outlet televising “The 4664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90″ taking place in London’s Hyde Park on Friday. It will be streamlined on VH1.com that day at mandelaconcert.vh1.com.

Some of the artists include Leona Lewis, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds and Amy Winehouse. Will Smith will host VH1’s coverage of the concert. A two-hour concert highlight special will air at 9 p.m. Monday on VH1.

–HBO has renewed “In Treatment” for a second season.

–Sam Witwer (from Battlestar Galactica) will play the role of Doomsday on ”Smallville.” He’ll start out as a charismatic paramedic, but will be hiding a dark side. Also, Cassidy Freeman will be joining the cast as Tess Mercer, the acting CEO of Luthorcorp.

MUSIC NEWS

-No shock here: Coldplay’s “Viva la Vida” is the No. 1 album. It’s also the second best debut of the year, behind Lil Wayne’s “The Carter III.”

-Oasis will release its new album, “Dig Out Your Soul,” on Oct. 6. It’s the first album from the band since “Don’t Believe the Truth” in 2005.

-American Idol finalist Blake Lewis is struggling in the music world. His record label, Arista, has dropped him.
