–the MTV Video Music Awards will be at 9 p.m. Sunday. And yes, Britney Spears will open the show.
–Ricky Schroder will direct a Sci Fi Channel movie called “Hellhounds.” Shooting begins Sunday in Romania, and is expected to air early next year.
–Oprah will appear on 30 Rock. It’s tentatively set for Nov. 6.
–Jennifer Aniston will make a guest appearance on NBC’s 30 Rock. There are no details on who she will be playing.
–Rumer Willis will make a guest appearance on Lifetime’s Army Wives. She will play the wife of a soldier who has been injured in Iraq. It will air Oct. 12.

LOCAL EVENTS
-Downtown Temperance Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Carr’s Grove Park. Food, craft booths, music, kids activities and more.
-The Detroit Beach Boat Club will hold a steak roast regatta Friday through Sunday at the club, 3028 Harborview St., Detroit Beach. Open to the public.
-A Gun and Knife Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the MBT Expo Center at Monroe County Fairgrounds. Cost is $6 for adults and free for those ages 12 and younger.
-Erie Orchards and Cider Mill will hold its Apple Festival on Saturday and Sunday at 1235 Erie Rd., Erie. Hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
-St. Joseph Catholic Church will hold its Homecoming Festival on Saturday and Sunday with ethnic foods, dancing and bocce ball. The church is located at 924 E. Second St.
