‘Angels’ defeat ‘Trek’ at box office

“Angels & Demons” opened with $48 million to take the top spot at the box office.

It fended off last week’s No. 1, “Star Trek,” which took in $43 million in its second week.

‘Angels’ is the sequel to the Da Vinci Code and stars Tom Hanks and is directed by Ron Howard. It didn’t do nearly as well as the Da Vinci Code, which earned $77.1 million when it opened in 2006.

Another blockbuster, “Terminator Salvation,” opens this Memorial Weekend.
