Watch ‘Nightmare’ trailer

If you’re like  me, you love the 1980s for its awesome movies, especially horror flicks.

Jackie Earle Haley stars as Freddy Krueger in the new “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movie. I usually don’t like remakes of my favorite movies, but I have to admit this one looks really promising.

Check out the trailer. It opens April 30, 2010. I can’t wait!

Rotten Tomatoes has done us the favor of putting together a list of the worst films ever made in the 21st century.

It has compiled its list of the 100 worst films since 2000. How many have you watched? Which one is the worst of the worst? Check out their opinion of the all-time worst!

‘Cloudy’ clear box office winner

For the second consecutive week, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” is the box office champ.

It earned $24.6 million to win the spot again. In a distant second, Bruce Willis’ “Surrogates” opened at $15 million.

The much-hyped “Fame” debuted at No. 3 with $10 million.

Latest Pop Culture News

-The ratings for Sunday’s Emmy awards on CBS were much improved. It was up 1 million from last year and had its best numbers since 2006. It drew 13.3 million viewers.

-No surprises on last night’s Dancing with the Stars. Ashley Hamilton and Macy Gray were sent home.

-In case you’ve missed “Mad Men” so far this season, don’t worry. AMC will be re-airing all six Season 3 episodes to date. The marathon starts at 10 a.m. Sunday.

-The second installment of “Ghost Rider” is in the works. It will once again star Nicolas Cage, who played in the 2007 original flick.

-Justin Timberlake will star in “The Social Network” drama about the formation of Facebook. He’ll paly Sean Parker, the Napster co-founder who became Facebook’s founding president. The movie will focus on the evolution of Facebook, created in 2004.

-Walt Disney’s 3D adventure film “Tron: Legacy” will arrive in theaters on Dec. 17, 2010.

-Lady Gaga and Kanye West are uniting to tour 34 cities, kicking off Nov. 10. They will perform Jan. 14 at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

-BIO Channel will debut a new series called “Celebrity Ghost Stories” at 10 p.m. Oct. 3. Celebrities will chronicle their true stories of personal encounters with the paranormal. Some of the many celebrities include Joan Rivers, Tom Arnold, Carrie Fisher, and the late David Carradine.

-Comedians Martin Short and Lily Tomlin have been added to the third season of “Damages,” due out in January.

-LeBron James will play himself in a comedy called “Fantasy Basketball Camp.” Production begins next summer.

-Tori Amos will release a holidy album called “Midwinter Graces” due out Nov. 10.  

-Fox has picked up “Glee” for a full season of the musical comedy.

-John Malkovich is joining the cast of “Secretariat,” a drama for Disney. The film is based on the relationship between the racehorse that won the 1973 triple-crown and its owner, played by Diane Lane.

-JJ Abrams is working on a possible comedic medical show for Fox network. The premise hasn’t been revealed.

-Diablo Cody is in negotiations to pick up the rights of the “Sweet Valley High” books for the big screen. The books center on the lives of two teenage girls who live in a fictional town of Sweet Valley, Calif. The series was created by Francine Pascal in the early 1980s.

New MJ song coming next month

Michael Jackson will have a new song coming out – the first since his death a few months ago.

The single, “This Is It,” will be out on Oct. 12.

Also, a two-disc album called “This Is It” will be released on Oct. 27 to coincide with the release of the “This Is It” movie opening on Oct. 28.

The first disc will feature original album masters of some of MJ’s biggest hits. The disc ends with two versions of the new “This Is It.”

The second disc will have unreleased versions of his classic tracks and include a spoken word poem from MJ entitled “Planet Earth” that has never been heard before.

Who’s destined for ‘Rock Hall’?

A total of 12 nominees are up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

Only 5 of the 12 will be selected to be inducted on March 15.

And the nominees are: Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Stooges, Genesis, KISS, The Chantels, The Hollies, Donna Summer, ABBA, LL Cool J, Darlene Love, Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro.

My personal picks are KISS, Red Hot Chili Peppers, ABBA, The Stooges, and the Chantels.

‘Meatballs’ tops box office

“Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs” easily defeated Matt Damon and Megan Fox at the box office this weekend.

The animated film had a $30.1 million debut, while Damon’s “The Informant!” settled for second with $10.5 million.

“Jennifer’s Body,” starring Fox, had a poor showing for its debut. The horror flick earned $6.8 million for fifth place.

-Don’t forget the Emmy Awards will air at 8 p.m. Sunday on CBS. Neil Patrick Harris will host.

-’Dancing with the Stars’ will hold a special tribute to Patrick Swayze on its Sept. 23 live results show. Swayze made a guest appearance on the show’s inaugural season in 2005.

-Monday night’s Neilsen ratings winner was NBC’s ‘The Biggest Loser’ with 9.87 million viewers. However, the Jay Leno Show fell nearly 40 perecent in its second night – ouch!

-It’s official: “Spider-Man 4″ will be released in Imax’s specialty venues on May 5, 2011.

-After 72 years, Guiding Light goes off the air on Friday. Starting Oct. 5, a new version of the game show “Let’s Make a Deal” will take over its daytime slot.

-A sequel to “Hancock” is in the works. Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman will reunite for the action comedy. The original film earned $624 million worldwide. Yikes!

-”Night of the Living Dead” is coming back, but this time in a 3D CGI format. “Night of the Living Dead: Origins” will be an updated tale partially bringing out the characters’ backstories while using American-style anime.

-Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic are “dismayed and disappointed” by Guitar Hero 5’s use of Kurt Cobain.

-Saturday Night Live announced its upcoming hosts. It kicks off Sept. 26 with Megan Fox and U2, followed by Ryan Reynolds and Lady Gag on Oct. 3; Drew Barrymore and Regina Spektor on Oct. 10, and Gerard Butler and Shakira on Oct. 17.

-”Justice League: The Complete Series” is coming out with a 15-DVD collection on Nov. 10.

-Mandy Moore will voice the lead role in the Digital 3D-animated musical action adventure “Rapunzel.” Zachary Levi, star of NBC’s “Chuck” also will lend his voice for the project. It’s set for a holiday 2010 release.

-Here’s the trailer for “A Christmas Carol” starring Jim Carrey. It’s a Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D film to be released on Nov. 6.

-Robin Wright Penn and James McAvoy will star in Robert Redford’s “The Conspirator,” the period drama based on true events following the assassination of President Lincoln. Wright Penn will play Mary Surratt, the only woman among a group charged with conspiring to kill the president.

-TBS renewed “My Boys” for a fourth season, which will air in 2010.

-Guillermo del Toro and Disney are joining forces to create a new brand called “Disney Double Dare You,” which will produce scary animated fare. Del Toro will be the creative force behind the new label. The first production will be called “Trollhunters.”

-Disney has begun production on a “Winnie the Pooh” feature film, due out in spring, 2011.
