“Academy” Park on Hold

The Monroe Evening News is reporting that plans for a new passive county park on the grounds of the IHM sisters in Monroe are on hold until at least next year.  Sufficient funding could not be obtained for a state matching grant:

Plans for the Academy Preserve call for walking trails, fishing sites, an environmental education center, demonstration farmland and natural area preservation and restoration. Emphasis would be placed on sustainable land-management practices, and the site would be designed using universal-access principals, ensuring that the site will be available to all people, regardless of their abilities or limitations.
