Southfield : Game fish released into lake
City officials along with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources recently released more than 14,000 native game fish into Carpenter Lake as part of the lake restoration project that started in 2004. The 42-acre park is being developed into a nature preserve with sustainable fish and wildlife habitats for recreational fishing. Other improvements include nature trails and boardwalks with interpretive signs. The park, located on 10 Mile Road just east of Inkster Road, is set to open spring 2008. A nature center is scheduled to open in 2010.

Northville: Bike trail may be expanded
A deteriorating 35-mile bike trail along Interstate 275 that spans 13 communities in Wayne, Monroe and Oakland counties could be expanded north up M-5 to Pontiac. State officials are mulling plans for the trail, built in the 1970s. The Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance requests input during an open house 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at the REI store in Northville, 17559 Haggerty.
