New Trail System for Delta Township/Lansing?

The Lansing State Journal and the Michigan Mountain Biking Association’s Mid-State Chapter published information about a possible new trail system for Delta Township’s Anderson Park.  Delta Township is on the west side of Lansing.  To see a map of the proposed trail system, click to the MMBA Mid-State blog here:

Excerpts and link from the Lansing State Journal:

DELTA TWP. — A mountain bike trail may be in the offing at the Anderson Nature Park located at old Lansing Road and Wardell Road, according to Delta Township’s director of parks, recreation and cemeteries, Dick Benkert.

Some trails used by hikers, bikers and equestrians already exist within the park on the east side of Wardell Road. The new mountain bike trail would be “hike and bike” only, thus reducing conflict between different kinds of users.

Mountain bike trails are “singletrack” trails rarely more than four-feet wide, with the actual riding surface between 12 and 18 inches. They are built with environment guidelines to help protect vegetation.

Parking plans include space for 20 vehicles spread among several locations, including the lot at the Millett Fire Station #2.

This is the official Delta Township page for the park:

Here is a good discussion of the park on the MMBA forums:

I placed a pin at the park location on Microsoft Virtual Earth:
