Winter Destination: Petoskey

Published by Mike Ingels at 10:22 pm under Hiking: Regional, Things to Do

MyNorth.com, the internet arm of Traverse Magazine, has a nice top-ten list of recommended winter activities in the NW Lower Peninsula City of Petoskey.  And I personally recommend a visit to the city.  It has a very nice downtown area with interesting shops, including a great, great bookstore.  The city has also done a great job of constructing greenspace along the town’s shore.  Petoskey has a great pier to walk and a nice trail along the Bear River that follows one of the largest elevation drops for a stream in Lower Michigan.  One of Michigan’s very rare Lower Peninsula waterfalls is about a mile upstream from the downtown area.
