Update: OH Karst Formation Flooding

The Cleveland Plain Dealer has an update on this past spring’s flooding in Bellevue, OH.  The town is just south of Sandusky.  Like much of our region, it harbors large sections of underground limestone.  Unlike most of the region, the town harbors karst formations - caves - that fill with water and, occasionally, push to the surface and flood basements.  Those who have visited the “Blue Hole” near Cedar Point have some experience with these formations.  Here are links to the Plain Dealer.  The PDF file has a neat chart showing this strange regional phenomena:
