One Response to “Bald Eagles Attack Dog in Gibraltar?”

I get inquiries about raptors and pets all the time.

If these were Bald Eagles, they may have been “rivals” or a pair pursuing each other. They weren’t after the dog, because Bald Eagles don’t hunt large live prey — in times of food shortages (doubtful if this is the case this year) they will pirate food from other birds, forage at dumps, or eat carrion. The vast majority of “Bald Eagle” kills of livestock or large mammals that could be verified ended up being Golden Eagles, which are not resident here. Occasionally a Red-tailed Hawk will go for a small dog, but not a lab-sized one.

This is just silly. If people don’t want to deal with wildlife, there are plenty of houses available in the concrete swaths of urbanized cities.
