DetNews: Metro Detroit’s Bike Trail System

Published by Mike Ingels at 3:27 pm under Hiking: Regional

The past ten years have been excellent for hikers and bikers in SE Michigan.  Almost every week another trail or trail system is announced.  I have spent most of the past 15 or 20 years trying to walk it all, but I haven’t even come close.  Of course, the dream for those who plan these things is a complete trail system across the region that connects and creates a network rather than a collection of trails.

And as Monroe continues to rework its lakeshore area, I think that it is important to look around us to see the nearby trail systems that we could link into.  The Detroit News has a reasonably decent map that gives an understanding of the long-range vision for a trail network in SE Michigan.  It does not even come close to showing all of the trails, but it does highlight the importance of the I-275 Bikeway and a possible Lake Erie Trail.  Link:
