Dean Cousino at the Monroe Evening News has an interesting article about new parkland acquired by Huron Township in southern Wayne County.  Excerpts and link:

Joseph Waltz Park in the Village of Waltz has a new owner — Huron Township.
The township has acquired the five-acre park off Mineral Springs Rd. plus an additional 18 acres surrounding the park through a property transfer with the Waltz Improvement Association, a local civic group that has owned the property and used it for numerous homecoming celebrations for the past 70 years.
Mrs. Doom said she envisions new ball diamonds, walking and biking paths and a playground being added to the park
Mrs. Doom said the township recently acquired another 80 acres of vacant, unimproved land near the park through a delinquent tax sale. The land is located north of Will Carleton Dr. and east of Clark Rd. Much of the property is wetlands but is ideal for a nature preserve, she said.
“That gives us more than 100 acres of future land for recreation,” the supervisor said. “We’re pretty excited about that.”
