Photo Opportunities while Hunting for another Photo

December 3rd, 2007 Posted in Growth

Today (Monday, my day off from ministry at the church) I took a hike in search of great pictures at Side Cut Park, on the southwest end of Toledo.  Actually, I had been inspired by an article in Sunday’s paper about a guy who got some really great photos of some deer at the park.  He says they’re really quite tame.  Well, I never did see a deer.

I did, however, see a milkweed that had a couple of seeds ready to take flight.  The composition, with two of the seed cases curled upward add a nice effect.

Then, when I got back to the parking lot where my van was parked, I noticed a small tree with its bark rubbed off.  It was done by a deer with antlers.  At some point within the last couple of days he’d been right there, by the parking lot.  I hadn’t even noticed it when I walked right by the tree to start my photo hike!

It just goes to show that you don’t always see or accomplish what you plan on but something else often happens.  It’s been said that “Life is what happens while you wait” and I believe it.

I want to be careful that I’m not so intent on seeing my goals accomplished that I miss something else that God may have in mind for me.  The fact that I don’t have a photo of a deer but have the photos of the milkweed and the rubbed tree are cases in point.
