Publishing a Novel — Part 2
February 15th, 2008 Posted in The Publication of a Novel
The Fountain is the working title of my novel being published by Cladach Publishing. I’ve been sent the “Author Questionnaire” which I’ve been working on the last several mornings between 5:45 and 6:45 (my usual writing time). This is where I give personal information including my educational, professional and writing experience.
Part of the questionnaire asks me to list people whose opinion of the book may help promote it. I’m also to list local newspapers and other media to whom we can send press releases about the book.
I think a lot of writers dislike this promotion part of the publishing process but it’s necessary. Why write a book if you aren’t willing to work at getting its existence known?
Presently, I’m working on a 300+ word description of the novel that can be used for promotional purposes and which may also be used on the back of the book. This is important! I’ve been reading the back cover of other novels to get a sense of what I should write. I’ll share it with you in a couple of days, after my wife Diann has had a chance to edit it. Diann and our church secretary, Susan, edit all of my stuff. Yes, having others edit what you write is one key to being a good writer!
