Horizon of Heaven

I’m standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She’s an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at length she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says, “There, she’s gone!” Gone where? Gone from my sight, that’s all. She’s just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and she’s just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There, she’s gone!” there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”
And that is what dying is like for the one in relationship with God! — Anonymous (with some editing by me)

Dave, I just finished writing to you about my mom under the Time Traveler posting. Oh my gosh! What you posted (with some editing) is how I felt (and feel) about my mom’s passing into her eternal life. I am continuing to feel the blessings from the window of opportunity and growth that the Lord has provided. I want people to know it is true. This IS how it is for a life lived with the Lord.

Wow! What a way to put death in perspective. After my sister died all I focused on was that she was gone. What comfort it gives me to realize that God is at the other side saying “Here She Is”. What a calming effect this has had on me.
