I Was at the Fair

August 6th, 2009 Posted in Uncategorized

BloggersCroppedMediumSizeI joined several other bloggers from the Monroe Evening News last night at the county fair.  We hung around the paper’s booth for several hours and got to know each other.  It was a good time.

Communicating and relating to people via the internet, whether through facebook, twitter, E-mail, a web site or a blog, is great but it has its limits.  I had read the others’ blogs but chatting with them face-to-face really helped me get to know them better than what their blogs could reveal about them. (Take it from me, they’re all a bit strange, except for me.)

It occurred to me that my experience was an illustration of what the apostle Paul was saying when he described how much better our perception of reality will be on the other side of heaven compared to this side of heaven.  “Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

Cyberspace has limitations when it comes to knowing people.  You can, for instance, rather easily portray yourself as someone you’re not.  Fallenspace (the reality we live in now) is like cyberspace in that there are limitations when it comes to knowing people and knowing God.  Heaven’s reality will be different.  “Then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”
