Feast of Love

The Game Plan

The Kingdom

If you ask me, none of these really look all that great.   Game Plan looks hokey, Kingdom will be good for war-film folks… but I’m not one of those people.  Feast of Love appeals to me the most… but even IT looks like the amount of subplots will dry it out.

Are you the favorite person of anybody?

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

“Are you the favorite person of anybody” is a short film starring John C. Reily.

It’s very interesting to watch, and pulls at numerous emotions.  Watch it now!

missed 2 days

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

So, I didn’t post a film review on Sunday… because I haven’t watched any movies since my last film review.

And, I didn’t post any updates from other filmmakers yesturday, because the only couple things I’ve found out about going on were a screening in Cali, and a screening that doesn’t happen until December.

Please don’t hate me!

What do you need to make films?

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Ok, so, I wasn’t sure what to write today’s blog about until about 5 minutes ago when someone in a message board asked me “Seriously, what do you need to make films?”

About a week ago, someone asked me a similar question.  “I want to be a film maker too when i get older. How many years of college do you need?”

I answered each of these people individually… but you, my readers, may have similar questions.   So here we go:

“What do you need to make films?”

1) A Script.  There’s a famous saying.  “The plot’s the thing.”  This is absolutely true.  If you have no script, you have no story.  If you have no story, you have nothing.  Also, if you have no script, you have no characters.  And if you have no characters, you have nothing to drive the story.  If nothing drives the story, there’s no story… and without a story you have nothing.  Sure, writing a script takes a while and some may find it hard to do.. but just remember, “The plot’s the thing”.  No script, no plot, no movie.

2) A camera.  You’re making a movie.  A movie is a VISUAL medium.  If you don’t have a camera, to get the visuals, then you don’t have a movie.

3) Lights.  Think about it like this: if you film something and have no light source, you’re shooting in total darkness.  What will the audience see?  A black screen.

4) A microphone.  Actually, it’d be cool to have a full multi-million dollar sound studio… but since I’m willing to bet you don’t have that (if I’m wrong, please let me borrow it!), a microphone in your camera’s mic jack will work.  If you’re poor like me and have a piece of crap camera that doesn’t even HAVE a mic jack… save and get a camera that does, or borrow/rent someone elses.

5) Actors.  Your story needs characters… so you need someone to BE those characters!

6) An editing program.  Editors are important.  Perhaps the most important position on a film crew.  The editor is the guy that puts all your footage together into a cohesive  film.

“How many years of college do you need?”

Answer?  None.  Sure, there are positives to film school.  You get the experience.  You get the know-how.  You get the networking.  You get damn good equipment.  But, if you DON’T go to film school, and decide to read books, talk to people on film forums, and shoot your own movies, you’ll get all the same stuff… just not as good equipment.

Good Luck Chuck

Sydney White

Resident Evil: Extinction

Good Luck Chuck looks like it should be funny.  I mean, it stars Dane Cook!  The man is a comedic God… well… at least when he’s doing his own material… in the movies, not so much.

Resident Evil looks… ok.  Though, I thought the first two were just ok, so who knows!

Sydney White is the modern retelling of the Snow White story… it looks like it’ll either be really cute, or a real dog.

The one coming out today that I actually DO want to see, I  won’t get a chance since it’s only being released in LA and NY.  That movie is Into The Wild.

scripting “Invisifriend”

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Remember that little poll I did not too long ago… the one where I had some ideas for new tv shows?  Well, I decided to do Invisifriend (which I know sucks as a title, I’m going to change it!).  I’m scripting it now, as well as looking for actors, a cinematographer and other positions.

If anyone’s interested in helping me out in any way, drop me a line!

Finite

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

“Finite” is a short film by indie film group One More Time Films.

The story is great, the acting is pretty good, the imagery is fantastic, the music is wonderful, and there’s some special effects that are pretty neat.

Check this short out!  But be sure to have a tissue or two with you when you do.

Superman:Doomsday

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

“Superman:Doomsday” based off the best selling comic EVER hit stores today.  Being the world’s biggest Superman fanatic, I bought it!

It was great!  The fight scenes were freakin’ sweet.  the twists were pretty cool.  Ann Heche was great as Lois Lane!

My only problem really was that Doomsday was a machine rather than a creature… oh, and that they didn’t do the Reign of the Supermen thing with the 4 new supermen (Eradicator, Steele, Superboy, Cyborg Superman)… but *shrugs* it was still good!

One Last Thing…

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

“One Last Thing…” is the story of a 16 year old with a terminal illness.  A foundation that grants terminal children’s dying wishes has the boy (Dylan) set up for a fishing trip with his favorite football player.  At the last minute, Dylan decides he’s got a better wish: to spend a weekend alone with supermodel Nikki Sinclaire.

This movie is a cross between a touching family story, and a comedic boy’s adventure flick.  The story idea is very original. The acting is fantastic (even though the 3 main male actors are all under the age of 20)!

This movie is a must see, between the acting, the story, the camera work… plus the fact that it’s INDIE!  I mean, come on, what’s not to love?  And it was all shot in HD as opposed to film, so the look is very crisp.   You can rent this flick, or do what I did… buy it from Hollywood Video on the 4 for $10 rack! :)
