I got suckered into watching the newest rendition of “Hairspray” last night while at my cousins’ place for Christmas.
I very much regret it!
This movie was campy as hell, it was rediculous, and there were far deeper sexual overtones throughout than there should have been.
I mean, this movie was geared toward a younger audience (Nickelodeon’s Amanda Bynes and Disney’s Zack Effron both star), so the sexuality that runs rampant throughout is totally uncalled for!
The acting was nausiating.
The music, while sung well, was cheezy as hell.
And yes, I KNOW that it’s from the musical, and remake of the original which had Riki Lake.
Lake’s version, I liked! This one, I thought was completely rediculous and I couldn’t take it seriously at ALL! NOT a cinematic high point!
That’s kinda harsh, isn’t it? The movie is so fun, it doesn’t really take itself seriously, except for the racism part… I think we watched two different movies…I didn’t think there was THAT many sexual undertones. There are always jokes that go over kid’s heads…You thought this one was campy??? lol..What was the original??? Plain Jane? I don’t know. Maybe you should give it another chance.
