Tomorrow night (Thursday Dec. 20) at 8pm at the Palladium (in Birmingham, MI) is White Wood @ The Movies. This is an event being held by White Wood Entertainment (a film company in Detroit) to attempt to raise money to make their first feature film. My film “Frankie” is being screened as part of the event! Tickets are $15 and can be bought by Tommie Green who you can either contact via the Whitewood Myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/whitewoodentertainment or give him a call at (313)948-9663.
Friday night at 7pm at the RRCA in Monroe, MI “Frankie” will be screening before the classic holiday film “What A Wonderful Life”. Tickets are $8 (I think)… and can be purchased at the door or call ahead at (734) 242-7722.
I hope to see a TON of people at each screening!
So, I FINALLY got around to seeing Reservoir Dogs.
I was not impressed.
Yes, admittedly, the story was great! However, the execution was not. Almost the entire movie was people standing around having verbose conversations.
Scenes dragged on and on, one person would talk for several minutes at a time, camera angles stayed the same for a seemingly rediculous span of time…
Good story? Hell yes! Unique way of telling it? Definantly. Cost saving for a low-budget filmmaker? Absolutely. Good movie? God no. I found the hype of the film better than the film itself.
People are weird, man. I get told all these “great” films that I “Just gotta see for yourself, man!” And then I watch them, and am hugely let down.
How do cult classics BECOME cult classics? Reservoir Dogs, El Mariachi, Fight Club, Napolean Dynamite, V For Vendetta… these are all movies people have said I “just gotta see” because of how great they are… and they’ve all been huge let downs for me.
Maybe I don’t “get” the films, or… whatever… but all these movies people say are so great and are classified as “cult classics”… I find to be dull and not very good films.
If you like Reservoir Dogs, then good! I’m not saying you shouldn’t! You like what you like! I’m just saying, I don’t like it. I mean, It’s people TALKING for an hour and 40 minutes! You know, in English class, they tell you when you write to show, don’t tell. This movie took that advice and completely flipped it. The whole story (while a very good story) was told to us… the only “showing” we got was the original meetings of how the group came together, and all those scenes combined was less than 20 minutes of the film.
White Wood @ The Movies is this coming Thursday night (Dec. 20) at the Palladium in Birmingham at 8pm.
The address is:
250 N Old Woodward Ave
Birmingham, MI 48009
Tickets are $15.
At this event you’ll see numerous short films by White Wood Entertainment, directed by Tommie Green (a young up-and-coming director from Detroit) as well as a special screening of MY short film “Frankie”.
I went through some of my unwatched DVD’s and found “The Ron Clark Story“.
It is based on the true story of Ron Clark: a teacher who goes to work in an inner city elementary school in Harlem.
There’s a little comedy (though most of the “comedy” is unbearably corny), and a lot of drama. It was a very heartfelt film and the story was interesting, as were the characters.
Watch this movie, for sure! Just… don’t be expecting too many laughs.
Check out “Twas the Dark Knight Before Christmas”
If you see I Am Legend in movie theaters, you’ll get to see a brand spankin’ new trailer for The Dark Knight (the new batman movie), and if you see it in IMAX you’ll get to see the first 6 minutes of the film (which is the origin of The Joker)
