Justice League: The New Frontier

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Everyone knows I’m a Superman fanatic.  Anything having to do with Supes, I gotta see.  So OF COURSE I watched Justice League: The New Frontier.

The art was interesting and different.  The storylines flowed together really well.

I just didn’t really like the voice talent.  Some of the main people just didn’t sound like the characters they were portraying.

But, overall, it was a very good animated film!   And from what I’ve been told, it follows the maxi-series by the same title almost frame per frame.

American Pie Presents: Beta House

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

We of course all love American Pie, American Pie 2, and American Wedding.  Not everyone knows this, but there are also 3 straight-to-DVD American Pie films… one of which is American Pie Presents: Beta House.

This movie was filled with some of the most outrageous raunchy humor around.  There were drunk antics, speculation of she-males, and sex with a goat.

What I’m trying to say is this was FUNNY!  I’m sure there are many people in the older generations who will find it rediculous and uncalled for… but for a 20something male like myself, it was hilarious!

So if you don’t like the f-bomb, sex jokes, nudity, and TONS MORE sex jokes… don’t bother with this.  If you’re into that sort of thing, it’s a surprisingly must see.  I thought it’d be crap… but it made me laugh a LOT!

Vantage Point

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Just saw Vantage Point, and it’s one of the coolest films I’ve seen in a while.

Well, at least the story is cool.

Lots of espionage and such in this flick, as well as a ton of interwoven characters!  The story had several twists I was NOT expecting.  It had a lot of energy and kept you guessing, and on the edge of your seat.

What I didn’t like, however, was the style.  This whole show a bit, rewind, show again plus some, rewind, show again with more… it’s been done.  I’m sure they THOUGHT they were being original with it (and, I GUESS it was kind of clever in a way)… but it’s an idea that’s been played to death.  They even did it once on Dawson’s Creek!

So, I guess what I’m saying here is that Vantage Point is a must see… just be warned that the style in which the story is presented might irritate you a bit.

Semi-Pro

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

Will Farrel’s new movie Semi-Pro is all about the basketball team the Flint Michigan Tropics.

This movie is supposed to be a comedy.  Key word?  SUPPOSED!  It fails.

Well, don’t get me wrong, it’s an ok movie.  It’s got a simple story, but it’s entertaining at least with the costumed dancing, the bad playing of the team, and of course Will Farrel getting beat up by a bear!

But… is it funny?  I wouldn’t say so.  Most of the film is kind of bland at best.  Granted, I laughed at a few scenes… but it wasn’t enough for me to call this movie “funny”.

If you’re a Will Farrell fan, you might really enjoy this.  If you’re not… you’ll only be mildly amused.

Fool’s Gold

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

One of the movies to come out over the weekend was “Fool’s Gold“.

I felt like the combo of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson wasn’t as strong here as it was in “How to lose a guy in 10 Days” I also think this was Donald Sutherland’s worst performance to date.

The girl who playd Sutherland’s daughter was annoying as HELL!

The bad guys weren’t really convincing.

What I’m saying here is that the acting was pretty forced and kinda crappy.

The story, though was good.

The pacing was a bit slow (especially during history lesson scenes).

All-in-all, it felt almost like… National Treasure meets How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.  It was odd.

School of Rock

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I caught “School of Rock” on tv last night (or was it sunday night?).

I missed the first 15 minutes of the movie since I didn’t even know it was on.  So, clearly, my review can’t be complete.

I did see most of it though, and I didn’t really like it.  I’ll admit that the music was fairly decent, but I think it was one of Jack Black’s weakest performances to date, and the story didn’t thrill me either.

I was going to say Joan Cusack wasn’t  very good either… but those who know me know I think John is by far the superior Cusack sibling.

The Bucket List

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I’ve been dying to see “The Bucket List” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.  Sunday I got my chance.

It was ok.

I was expecting a laugh riot… what I got was a fairly slow-paced film that had a couple of comedic parts and a couple of tear jerking parts (YES, I cried).

The acting was very good (duh!  Look who’s in it!), and the story was unique… but it got old after a while and I started losing interest pretty quickly.

I’m sure the plethera of senior citizens in the audience loved it and felt some strong ties with the characters and the story… but for me, as a 20-something, it was pretty dull.

I didn’t hate it.  Like I said, it had good points… but it was just ok for me.

Catch And Release

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I was just a movie-watching machine this weekend! One of the movies I saw was “Catch and Release”.

This was a really cute movie. The acting was good (Jennifer Garner is always good… and even Kevin Smith was decent in this one!), the story was pretty well developed, and it was beautifully shot.

There were a couple of plot points that I didn’t agree with out of personal taste, but all-in-all, I thought this was a very good film.

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Since I’ve been watching a bunch of Kevin Smith movies lately, I decided to watch “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back”.

This movie is awful!

It’s slightly amusing in some place, and is a cool little easter-egg film with TONS of cameos, but that’s where the good words stop. The story was stupid as hell, the pacing was off, the acting was crap, and with exception of a couple of jokes it wasn’t very funny.

There is no reason to watch this movie. If you haven’t seen it, don’t. It’s 104 minutes of pointlessness

The Oh! In Ohio

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I have had the movie “The Oh! In Ohio” sitting around my room for quite some time now, so I decided to watch it the other night.

It was ok.

The acting wasn’t as believable as it could be, the story is about a woman who’s never orgasmed (and when she does, she becomes addicted to it), but it looked good.

There’s a few stars in it: Danny Devito, Paul Rudd, and the star is Parker Posey.

It’s got some funny parts in it, but all in all it didn’t have me really caring enough about the characters or what happened with their relationships… which was what the movie was all about.  So basically, it failed… but like I said, it was good for a couple of chuckles.
