Log Books (revisited)

Sunday, July 1st, 2007

Already talked about how good of tool it is to keep a log of your fishing trips, but here are a few more useful ideas to apply to the subject.

What to use for a log?  Every summer, as parents are gearing back up for the kids to go back to school, some place has what they call a “composition” notebook on sale.  A few years ago I picked up 20 or so for 59 cents each.

I have them for pike, walleye, muskie, tournies…etc.  I add supplemental notes to pages with post-it notes.  Tape in maps with notes on the maps.  Search patterns, rock piles;  any useful information that can help me in the future.  Its not just about what you learned that can help, but also info on things I tried that just totally was off base.  Anybody who tells you everything that they try out and works the first time is full of baloney.  So write down the mistakes too, learn from them, change them, build on them, or just scrap it.
