1st Annual Matthew’s B&T Walleye Tournament

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Captain Mike at Matthew’s Bait and Tackle in Bolles Harbour announced yesterday their first annual walleye tournament.  Its to be held June 21st, which is a Saturday.

As of now, here are the details:

Entry fee is $60 per boat, and you can have up to 6 people in that boat.

You will be judged on the five biggest fish, by weight in your boat.

Based upon a 20 boat entry, the payout will go to the top 4 places.  For each additional 10 entries there will be another payout added.

Registration will begin at 5am Saturday morning, and last through 6:30 am.  Tourney hours will be from 7am thru 3:00 pm.  That means you must be out of the water, and at the shop at 3pm for weigh-in.

Additionally, there will be a side pot for the tourney’s big fish.

All the fish turned in for weighing will be donated for a fish fry after the event.  There will be chips, pop, water and juices available, as well.

If interested, give Capt. Mike a call at 734.244.6217,  or call the shop @ 242.0666

This a first year event,  and hopefully the turnout will be good.  Its about time there was a local tournament held here in the Monroe area.  Talk about helping to stimulate the economy with such a great resource in our own backyard.  There are local tournies held on Saginaw Bay every weekend it seems.  This first annual event sounds like a lot of fun and if your boat doesn’t have enough room for 6 people, no worries.  I will be fishing with three total in the boat,  see you there!

Using Divers to Stay High in the Water Column

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

OK,  I did mention yesterday there was a way to still  use your divers for fishing up high while fish are feeding on the mayflies.

This is possible with every type, except the Jet Divers from Luhr Jensen.  You can still use the Dipseys (small size) from the same company, Lil’Divers from Fishlander, Mini Discs from Big Jon,  and Deeper Divers from Walker.

They all have an adjustable weight on the under belly.  Straight in front front for diving straight down. or left and right to get out to the sides.  The trick here is if you slide the weighted section all the way to the back, it will still dive because of the pull of the main line, you just don’t go as deep.
