The Man Pad: Cooking Central

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

One of the projects to be done before the party this weekend was to dig, frame, stamp, pour cement for the “Man Pad”.  This my cooking central area.  Its got the natural gas grill, my old bbq which i use with sauce, the smoker and the big three burner for boiling corn or boiled dinners.

Remember the keg cookers from last year,  they sit perfectly on a 3 burner camp stove.  Thinking of running down to Bass Pro again, and getting another deep dryer.  That way I can have my “fish and chips” ready at the same time!

Matthew’s Fishing Report: Where have the Walleye gone?

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

Been trying to beat the rain before this weekend and the party, so not much from myself to report on fishing.  Luckily the guys at Matthew’s Bait and Tackle keep sending those emails and posts.

The big question seems to be, “Where have all the walleye gone?”  Luckily the perch have been producing in some spots,  and you have to be aggressive in your approach.  If the fish “ain’t there”, don’t be afraid to pull anchor and go find them.  A slow drift can help locate perch when they are on the move.

Here is the report from Jason at the B&T:

PERCH SPOTTY/ WALLEYE NON-EXISTENT

Perch have been taken just past e-bouy in 22ft of water. Some are doing well out there but some are struggling. Keep in mind, the key to good perch fishing is constant movement. If you sit in a spot for 20 minutes and are not catching fish, its time to move. The perch are there, you just need to find them.

Walleye seem to be pretty much gone. We have been getting a few reports out near West Sister Island, but they’re not tearing it up by no means.

Thank you and hope to see you this weekend.
