At the Fair: It wasn’t all about fishing

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I also managed to do some fun things while at the fair.  Here I am waiting for the Rodeo to start up Wednesday night.  One night of contacts was enough for me though, too much dust swirling around to chance another scratchy night of driving home when every headlight looking like that bright light coming to get me with with halo’s attached.  Me and halo’s?  Only if mom is looking down on me!!!

Think the best of the fair for me is the animals, and the care they receive from the 4-H kids.  Must be an Ida thing.

Even though Bud will never show up on my shopping list for beer, you still have to be impressed with these majestic animals and the precision they have as a team.

Think that’s it for me this year, might have another day left in me, but only if someone else buys the shaved ice!

The Homeland Secuity Boat: MCSD

Friday, August 1st, 2008

At first impression, this is was one UGLY BOAT.  When I walked around it, I became more and more impressed with its lines.  Like the A-10 tank buster the Air Force flies, you really can be impressed just by its brute force.  What’s not to like the massive twin 250 Mercury Verado’s on the back?!  If you didn’t take a closer look before, or you are saving your trip to the fair this weekend, it really is a must see.

Found my E-tech Guys at the Fair

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Even ran into the guys where I bought my 40 hp E-tech for the Triton this spring.  Love the service at Bi-State Marine,  just good people working there it seems.  Best part compared to the big shops, these guys know their product.

Evening with the Bloggers

Friday, August 1st, 2008

I had a very nice experience with six of the other “bloggers” at the booth yesterday evening.  Talked to quite a few people, and was able to hand out some DVD’s on using flashers for ice fishing.  Lots of kids liked the Mustad Hook books, Power Pro Stickers and the Frank’s Great Outdoors catalogs.

It was nice to sit down finally after walking through the fair, taking pics for the blog, running into some old friends from Summerfield, Ida, Dundee, and  Maybee .  I would have liked to have spent more time actually talking to the folks who write their blogs to get a better understanding of what they write  about.  Its amazing how fast time flies while you are having fun talking to folks coming through the expo area, and our time slot in the New’s booth just flew by.

So thanks to Dan Shaw for setting it up, glad to see you were feeling better.  Nice to see Paula again, finally put a face to the Luna Pier Cook and Veteran’s Review.  Jessica, a very nice young lady,  and Em whom really has a LOT of energy.  Think it was the powdered sugar,  and there is nothing fishy about me.

Stealing the pic from Dave’s food blog, it was as much fun as the pic show’s.  And for a certain smart-alec, that is my smile so lay off.  Sitting on the right is me.

What I Found @ the Fair: Something For the Pups

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Yesterday while walking through the Expo Center I even found something for the pups,  each got a new bright green ID tag for their collars.  Bebba’s Engraving was set up in their booth, and for $5 each, they had their names and two of my phone numbers engraved.  Ruby was very nice, and did a great job.

There was another booth set up, but these folks were extremely helpful, and it seemed like the thickness of the metal was greater.  I learned my lesson with Piper, whose ID tag wore right through after a few months.  It was well worth the three dollar difference in price for the better quality in my book.

Besides dog tags, they do Bridle and Saddle Plates.  I was really tempted to get the little tombstones for Piper and Shelby, but I had just made some myself not that long ago.  Anyway, if you have a need, these folks seemed like good people and they are right here in Monroe.

What I Found @ the Fair: Absolute Taxidermy

Absolute

As I walked all over the fairgrounds the last couple of days, I found several exhibits of interest.  The first one is Absolute Taxidermy, located in Carleton, Michigan.  The owner is Vaughn Chambless, and this wasn’t the first time I had seen his work.  At the boat show back in the spring Mr. Chambless was set up and I was able to see (as were many others who walked by) his work first hand.  He was doing his work right there in the booth as he applied this fascinating craft.  Today and Saturday he will be doing it as well.

If you are in the Expo Center,  stop by along the East Wall and see his booth up close.  The pic above is the display, and everything  looked pretty darn good.  If you have some time to surf the web as you read this, you can go to his site.  Learn info on his experience and the pride he takes in his work.  Check out the gallery for the many mounts he has won awards with.
