Painting Perch Blades: Pt:2

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

This was the old piece of minnow bucket that I used for painting the blades.  I would have included this with the other blog, the pic option was screwed up for some reason.

These are the finished product which I put on my ice fishing bucket seat so that they would stand out, hope both pics are clear enough.

going fishing in the morning, so putting this up now.

Painting Blades for Perch

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I have a bunch of small brass #0 and #00 Indiana blades for making perch rigs with.  Well over time, brass dulls or tarnishes.  Its not that they won’t catch fish, but more than likely not as many as before.  What I did to solve this last night involved some toothpicks, piece of old foam, the blades and a can of white paint.

October 12th: FLW Walleye on the Bays

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Bays de Noc that is.  After the next two weeks of bass fishing coverage for the Forrest Wood Cup, on October 12th comes coverage from the August tournament held in the Upper Peninsula.  If you have never fished the U.P.’s famous walleye grounds, this is a good chance to catch up on the latest trends that work effectively.

Same time, same bat channel.  11 am on that Sunday, locally on Fox Sports Detroit.

Just like any good article written in a magazine, look past the words and check out the pics for additional helpful hints that may be in the background.  Type of gear, type of line, rigging techniques and more.  You will be surprised what kind of info  you can pick up.

Matthew’s B&T Perch Report 4 Friday

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I knew I should have called the shop to see if there had been any good reports while I was out fishing yesterday.  Damn cell phones make everything so easy, all you have to do is call up and get r done.  The guys put up a new report this morning, and its pretty much right on with what I heard yesterday back at the landing.  Here’s there report!

PERCH FISHING PICKED UP ON FRIDAY!!!

A few nice catches of PERCH were brough into the store on Friday. We have both shiners and chubbs in stock and both were working on Friday.

Fish are being taken near the E bouy, at the end of the Raisin River Channel and off Stoney Point in 23′ of water.

Flicker bladed hooks and PERCH rigs seem to be working best!

Tomorrow should be a great day to fish!!!

Good Luck & Tight Lines,

Capt. Mike & Jay

Forrest Wood Cup TV Coverage

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

The next two weeks, there will be coverage of bass angling’s Forrest Wood Cup on Fox.  Locally that’s every Sunday, starting at 11 am through noon on Fox Sports Detroit.  Pretty sure that’s channel 33 for Charter Cable.

Held back in August for four days starting on the 14th, it was a championship that lasted till the 17th on Lake Murray in Columbia, South Carolina.  So starting tomorrow at 11 am, check in to see the results, but also pick apart the show for more tips that you can take and use yourself out on the water.

Perch Report for Friday

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Well the four footers didn’t help much, and going inside the bay didn’t quite have the calming effect I had hoped for.  The wind started off from the Northeast, and by the end of the trip, was almost out of the east.  Ended up catching more sheephead than perch.

But, all is not lost.  The algae was nonexistent, and that was a nice surprise considering all that I had heard lately.  I had gone back to the same spot as last weekend initially, about 20 to 21 fow.  When coming back in, got a few reports from several sources where the school had moved too.  Starting at 22 fow out to 26 foot seemed to be the hot ticket this morning early.  Two guys had kept 50 out of 125 or so caught.

The fish are there, so enjoy the weekend, and hope for calmer winds!.
