Painting Blades for Perch

I have a bunch of small brass #0 and #00 Indiana blades for making perch rigs with.  Well over time, brass dulls or tarnishes.  Its not that they won’t catch fish, but more than likely not as many as before.  What I did to solve this last night involved some toothpicks, piece of old foam, the blades and a can of white paint.

You probably already have the puzzle solved, but I stuck the blades with the toothpicks, placed them in the foam, and then painted against some some old cardboard.  After I was done, I carefully took one more toothpick and then pulled the blades away from the foam so they wouldn’t stick when they dried.

These will be used on the snells that I made for for droppers off the perch spreaders.  The white could also act as a primer for any other color I might want to try.  If the blades on the spreaders are going dull or scratched up, you aren’t completely stuck, even though they are pretty much permanently attached.  Using some old news paper and masking tape,  cover the the beads and wire and carefully give them a new color scheme as well.  The same color is a good idea, or use white again either for its own color, or as a primer for a new color.
