Sunday Perch Report

Long day, 63 perch.  Thats the grand total between three of us for Sunday, and I mean most of Sunday.  A bunch of the came after 3 pm on perch (vertical) rigs.  Our first location in front of Stoney Point in 24 foot water was hit and miss,  and just enough to keep you interested in the spot. Nothing in 25 foot of water.  Moved over in front of the river, and lots of algae coming out, rest of the bay and lake seemed clean.

After moving around to different spots, came back in where we had started, picked up like 5 doubles on the rigs, maybe a few more, but thats it. Kept 34 after 3 pm, and caught a lot of small ones too.

Curious to know why perch fishing isn’t good? Is the counts of fish going down? Or just haven’t moved in yet? Water too warm? Just curious – I’m not impressed with the numbers that I’ve heard – what happened to the hey days????

you sure ask a lot of good questions :) I would say the counts are there or fairly close, but the size isn’t. Like a few years ago when everyone was catching undersized walleyes, there seems to be quite a few 4 and 5 inch fish being caught. I clean my own fish, so when we catch 63, they have to be a certain size for me to bother, and they are on ice as I write waiting for me to get motivated.
