Eskimo is Seeing Red

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Somehow I think I should have tried to make it clearer in the title that I was talking about Eskimo Shanties.  Regardless, gone is the green, in with the red fabric and gray interiors of Eskimo’s new lineup of shelters for 2009.

Lots of new features to like, and some drawbacks as well.  Like the skylight for letting light in, and the fact that  you can close it up on the new Eskape models.  Not crazy about the gray interior, for one HELLO red and gray…OSU colors!  Second reason is a little more functional, it allows more light in, and if I want it dark inside to allow for sight fishing, this is a slight drawback.

Catch up on all the new models and sizes of the Eskapeand Quickfilps online.

Love My Blue Suit

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

I am sure I will be ripped to shreads on another forum site for blasting some knuckleheads for not layering underneath the Ice Armor Blue Suit from Clam.  It was a topic about what not to waste your money on.  They really got it wrong on this item.  They said they got cold, well duh.  Its a windproof suit, made for putting layers underneath.

I spend up to 14 hours outdoors  a day while on the ice while prepping for tournaments, and like my Vexilar, its the one item I won’t go fishing without!

Once you pick it up, you know you have to layer.  I wear silk to wick moisture off my skin, then fleece to insulate, the suit keeps the wind off of you.  It works, it lasts and its effective!

Reality TV for the Ice Fisherman

Just got this from the tourney director for the NAIFC, sounds like reality tv finally might make some sense!

This winter on the Sportsman’s Channel, Ice Men from across the country will compete, laugh and land buckets of fish all on the road to ultimate gratification… the North American Ice Fishing Circuit Championship.

Ice Men isn’t about always landing “the big one”, nor about who can win with the most or least amount of gear. Ice Men will feature the best fishers and in fact will spotlight select teams from each of the tournaments whether old pro’s or new amateur hopefuls, and of the select few there may even be some who get to compete on a higher level, but I’ll let that stay a surprise until the big ending.

Through the season you will see teams both on and off the ice, during and between competitions and actually see teams practice their tactics, improve their techniques and prepare themselves (or not) for the big championship.

Viewers will see a new concept in outdoor sport coverage… reality. This isn’t reality like you think Survivor is a “reality” show. There’s nothing real about that situation. Ice Men isn’t the same old guy pulling a fish into the boat every ten seconds while talking about his favorite stink bait. Ice fishing, while not technologically poor is still very different from the other, warm weather fishing tournaments that are almost wholly technology driven. You can bring all the gear in the world out onto the ice and get a long-lasting lesson in humility from the local 12-year old whose technique and understanding of the local conditions are flawless.

This winter you can stay warm next to the fire while still feeling the cold thrill of pulling fish from the frozen depths, but only on Ice Men, and only on the Sportsman’s Channel. Consult your local listings for information or go to www.naifc.com to track schedules, specific Ice Men profiles and their standings in the Circuit through the season.
