State Gives Michigan its Due

I grew up a University of Michigan fan, and I can blame a best friend for turning me around to the green side of the state.  Back in the day of Ida football I had the privilege of playing for Tom Overholser, and the best of luck as serving as a captain my senior year with my two best friends; Mike Golembieski and Boyd Meyers.  Coach has long since retired, probably just finished salmon fishing recently and is back home in Sylvania.  Gumby is probably pulling 12’s for DTE, and there is a good chance Boyd is talking game highlights  with his dad.

After we all graduated and moved on, BA (Boyd Allen) walked on at MSU and followed his dream.  Back in ‘87-88  I followed him out to Pasedena to watch Lorenzo White and the team beat Southern Cal for the Rose Bowl.  Then my brother attended State, as did an uncle and cousin.  It was at that point, well actually after Bo left for the Tigers, that I got caught up in the chants of “Go Green, Go White”.

I still respected U of M, wished them well, celebrated a National Championship well earned.  Was disappointed in the years that followed, and shamed with the way Lloyd Carr was swept out of office. Then embarrassed with the hiring of Rich Rod.  Yep embarrassed, he isn’t a Michigan Man, and he wasn’t hired the Michigan way.

In a stealth meeting in Toledo, Mary Sue Coleman and A.D. Bill Martin met with this guy.  Under contract with another university,  and instead of upholding the school’s higher principles did what lesser schools do, stole a coach.  They paid for it, and his buyout, and now the team is paying for it too.  Bo wouldn’t have done it this-a-way, he had the best interest of the school at heart.  Now its tarnished, the same way the basketball program is tarnished.  Now Michigan is just like all the rest, and no longer the “Best in the West”

Nothing left to say but, GO Green, GO White!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
