Only Two Places for Ohio Licenses in Monroe

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

The grand plan Saturday was to head out of Bolles Harbour and pick up our Ohio fishing licenses at the Erie Party Store there in the harbor.  But after some positive fishing reports we decided to change up and head out from the state park.

We stopped at Jeff’s, no Ohio license.  From there we went to the State Park Party Store,  no license there…………the only other place in Monroe to get an Ohio license is the Brest Bay Party Store on the corner of Dix and Brest Bay Road.

Keep it in mind when you head out to get your licenses, and good luck.

Saturday on Erie

Never had such a beautiful day be such a downer before.  Weather was right, had the shorts on, cold beer on ice, good friends…………..and some of the dirtiest water I have ever seen.

Brest Bay was socked in with milky water.  The River Raisin was spewing dirty run-off, and between the bay and the channel was that thin blue line I always look for! Trolled down the mudline, and back up the mudline, ended up near Stoney Point.  Not one fish, let alone a bite.

So, pack up the gear and head south for Ohio waters.  Ended up between the Toledo light and Turtle Island and started drifting.  Threw out two drift bags off the rear and threw in a 3/4 oz Whistler Jig.  My neighbor and his brother tossed out both hair jigs and blade baits like the Vibe and Cicada.  Again the water was pretty milky when we started our drift.

Near the end of the drift I pulled in one drift bag and one of the guys had put out a harness on a 2 oz bottom bouncer, just to switch things up.  The wind picked up and the blade started turning…rod bends over!  At the same time my neighbor has hits on a chartreuse hair jig.  His brother pulled up a nice 22.5 inch male that weighed a healthy 4.2 lbs.
