Where to get Reef Runners

Monday, May 4th, 2009

As I got ready for the tournament last Saturday, I like lots of other folks studied the reports online coming off the lake.  What was working, what I could adapt and make work.  Lots of factors to consider with the winds, water conditions and clarity factors that currently exist in the lake.

One of the big reports was that running Reef Runner cranks were steadily producing.  That was over two weeks ago, so I wrote Reef Runner asking where I could get some of the custom colors.  Even though the website had the best prices on the old mainstays,  I wanted to go with what was working the best currently on the lake.  So I fired off an email.

A week and half later, I get an new catalog for 2009 and new price list.  Also included was a copy of my email with a hand written note, as to where I could get the cranks I wanted.  Xtackle.com  was the answer.  Unfortunately there was no way I was going to get an order sent in and shipped out in time for Saturday.  So this is going to be filed away for future reference.  Best part is that on orders over 100 bills, the shipping is only $5.95.

You might inquire as to why you would need a hundred bucks worth.  Hey you might not, but if you got together with a couple of buddies and say three of you got six each, that’s only 2 bucks a piece for shipping….not too shabby!

Weekend Fishing

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Saturday started off as a great day, only took 15 minutes to run down to the Point.  Later the winds kicked up and the trip back to Erie Metropark took 35 minutes.  Four footers will do that.

Managed a 5th place finish in the tournament.  The set up included a pair of 4 oz bottom bouncers off the side, two rods set up with boards running Reef Runners, and then two lines off the back with Husky Jerks.  Running speed varied from .8 up to 1.4 mph.  Best luck came on blue and purple blades off the bottom bouncers, and the purple Reef Runners, 800 size.

With the water being clouded, going with the darker colors seemed to produce the best.  Even though the one purple crank had a glow belly, it had little effect as to the fish catch rate.  As long as it was down there, the glow charge would have worn off by then.

Here a couple of pics, one with a board running by itself, then the starboard side rod setup, and then the two fish I kept to clean.
