War of 1812? What’s that?

The War Begins!

It begins with an attack on Canada, not only in hopes of gaining land, but also to cut off British supplies being sent to Tecumseh’s Indian confederation. Tecumseh’s Indain confederation had been a thorn in our side for sometime so if they could stop the British from supplying them, we could gain ground on two fronts. The inital battles were not as easy as we had hoped in Canada due to our inexperience in the art of War so we were pushed back quickly. The only victories we seemed to be able to achieve were those by Oliver Hazard Perry on Lake Erie and Thomas Macdonough on Lake Champlain. Many of you are familiar with Perry’s monument in Put-in-Bay which celebrates this victory. These victories prevented a northern-frontal invasion of the United States including New York.

General William Henry Harrison’s forces did manage to kill Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames in 1813.
