Did you know? Answer!
The leading cause of death for women during the 19th century was not child birth as so many of you guess!!!
The leading cause was death by fire! And, no not because their house burned down. Death by fire because of their skirts during the process of cooking over an open fire or hearth. They had so many skirts and petticoats on, they went up like a roman candle. Sad, but true!

Can we get some more info, like sources and such?
I find it hard to beleive that more women burned because thier skirts caught on fire thant the estimated 10 million plus that died of the plague in India. Assuming of course that say 12% or so might have been women.
Or is this more of an anectdotal fact than a real fact?
Not an anecdotal fact. But again, since i am an American citizen and my site is mainly about American History, Hence the subtitles 1812, Civil War. If you look through them you would find all of my articles have been on such subjects, then you could draw the conclusion that I draw my information from American sources, and my statistics are based on American Statistics. Catching skirts on fire was the leading cause of death among women in Early American life…even more so than child birth, which is what I had set out to prove and found my thesis to be entirely wrong, and the earlier statement to be, in fact, reality. My figures did not even consider India or a plague.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.
