Republican Party and Lincoln!

In answer to the question what party was responsible for freeing the slaves and saving the Union?

The Republican Party which grew out ot the resistance to the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which overrode the Missouri-Compromise and allowed slavery to spread into the Western territory by popular sovereignty.

The Republican party absorbed anti-slavery Whigs and most Know-Nothings. It became more moderate in its stance on the exclusion of slavery and denounced John Brown’s raid. The platform endorsed a protective tariff, the Homestead Act, and internal improvements.

In the midst of the Civil War, the Republican party asked that the country continue to fight according to Lincoln’s war measures. The party demanded an unconditional surrender and supported a constitutional amendment to end slavery.

The Democrats were split along “war” and “peace” factions, but managed to unite behind George McClellan in 1864. With a “Union First” (you notice no talk of slavery) then “Peace” platform, the Democrats appeased both those who desired to defeat the Confederacy at all costs as well as those who favored negotiation and compromise.

How did these two party’s ever get so messed up that the Democrats elected a “Black Man”. How does anyone voting today not spend the time to research the history of these party’s and map their development before voting???

The democratic party voted in a man they wouldn’t have cared less existed in 1861 or as it sounds in 1864. The same time period today’s Black Race continues to throw up to the white race at every chance. The excuse as to why so many that are Black voted for Obama without a second glance as to the democratic platform is quote, ”well the party changed and developed over the years and they are for the Black Man”, Really???? Looks like all the democrats are doing is enabling a Race, due to all the governmental programs for free money, to be dependant on their government, and never do anything for themselves. My question then is, if you want racism to stop, then why hasn’t the Black Race changed and developed in their thinking as time has allowed society and political parties to change? Has this hatred for the white race gone too far?????? The white race can no longer have any organization or institution that caters to just the white race (and don’t mistake my comment, maybe that is good!) But if the race that founded this country cannot have exclusive institutions because that is racism, then why can the Black race have these organizations and institutions catering and supporting only the Black race? Is the White race actually who should be called the racists? Or, has the Black race become that?????? It is a question we should all consider. The arguement of race and color is an excuse, and a crutch that no longer applies. I for one am tired of it!!! I would like to see the people of this country concentrate on the real issues and problems faced by the middle class. The upper class has will always take care of themselves and the lower class the government takes care of everything. Lets cure the problems faced by the class that pays for everything, the one that doesn’t have multiple companies and tax shelters to hide their money in. The one that can’t afford to send their kids to college.

Have a Historical Day!!

  4. Excellent Savannah! Thank you for all of work and research you are doing.

  5. Its sounds like your being a little racist Ms. Savannah Meade lets not forget that although you have brains that dousn’t mean what your saying is socially acceptable. I will give you credit for useing the KN Act to start out (your pointless going nowhere speech) it was a good stratgy because I actually took you seriously for about 3 lines after that. But above all stick to your day job and get a new picture because the colorized from black and white photo you have up there from the 1980s just dousn’t quite cut it.

  6. It is obvious to me that you zeroed in on the Black issue as do many these days and that is all that you saw. That is precisely my point. My question was why do people vote Democratic and say they do because the democratic party protects the Black man (is for the black man)…the pink man the purple man what ever color man…(and you notice if i were racist I would include women which you and i have not even touched on yet.) My blogs are questions to get people to think about history and how it evolved. think outside the box (outside of ourselves and our color) I live in Michigan were race issues are huge and racism unfortunately chokes good decision making for everyone. I am tired of racism, the talk of it…the fight. I began that blog by letting peole know where the freedom started, with what party, and the fact that I am tired of the argument of race…it has gone too far and we have lost what are the true issues, again for everyone! My blog was not aimed at you and or anyone. It was to get you to think, instead, you shrunk to uttering an insult about my picture. Good one and it was taken in 2006…your hateful!!!!!

  7. I missed the “Little Know Fact” part again. Can you perhaps direct me to that part. Skip all the racist crap and the fact about Lincoln being a REP. Maybe I just knwo too many facts and glossed over it. Or was it the part about the Dem party being so messed up, nope knew that one too.
Was it that Obama is Black?
Or that he is a DEM?
Tell me about his father or his brother.

  8. The question was: What political party freed the Black race and is said to have saved the Union? The answer is the Republican party. Again remember I blog mainly about the Civil War and attempt to address the misunderstanding many have of that time period, and many times because political party’s change their beliefs and platforms. They do not resemble those of their predecesors. Which was the main point and I went on to explain why?
I am sorry you misinterpreted my blog. It is evident to me either you read far too quickly, or read IN far too much, and did not consider all of the questions I was asking. I ask for your comments on the subject matter…it is not here for you to condemn my opinions or those of others I tend to include or for me to condemn yours/ they are here for you to consider (that is what higer level educators always attempt to offer their students; a means within which to grow and form your own opinions) (To stimulate further research of your own and not to always rely on what others tell you) (to get you to think for yourself)…NOT for you to make assumptions and nasty remarks about what I do, or what I believe, or to accuse me of racisim…when the article is clear that I want racism to stop. Not from just the white man toward the Black…but in reverse also…it must be from both ends. Too many people today assume way too much and believe that peoples motives are of the negative nature far too often, before really thinking things through. The bottom line is if you are American, and you believe yourself to be of a non racist nature…then all of these ideas and beliefs need to be thought through and addressed before everyone comes together.
I believe my statistics to be correct and my facts to be pretty close if not dead on….History has always been and will always be an interpretation of what the beholder saw and recorded. Just like in the game telephone…the story is different and changes with each new person that tells their story. For example….If there are a half a dozen Generals or more on the battlefield at any one time, and if each one writes down HIS account of what happened…do you honestly think you will get the same story exactly from each one if it has not been orchestrated before hand? Summaries of these various accounts found in history books are that writers/publishers interpretation of that collection of various accounts. That is why most writers consider multiple accounts before writing and why there are variations from writer to another within events….you decide, as the reader/researcher what you feel is correct based on your researched beliefs and moral convictions. And, we don’t all have to agree all the time!
