Baseball, Hotdogs, Apple-Pie, and Chevrolet?

PhotobucketGranddaughter Ava scoring from third base.  So far this summer there has been plenty of  T-ball games to go watch, along with some softball games.  I could’nt tell you how many “hot dogs” I’ve let “cool off” in my mouth!   I love those little tube steaks, especially with chili.  We have a root beer stand in Monroe that I used to go to as a kid, and they still serve the best tasting chili-dog around.  Of course my wife is into calorie and carb counting, so my visits have to be incognito these days.

Apple pie is kind of a rare treat anymore, but thankfully it’s a couple of my kids favorite dessert.  Instead of cake they ask for apple pie on their birthday, and my wife makes the best.  So I did have a piece just a few weeks ago.

Now the end of that familiar summer slogan is “Chevrolet,” and I don’t know if they may have to change that ditty to another word.  How would “baseball, hot dogs, apple-pie, and KIA sound?  Or maybe Dawhoo?  Or they could use Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, Toyota or any number of foreign names that do business with us independent Americans.  “Your not going to tell me what kind of car I can buy!”   The slogan just wouldn’t be the same, as it has it’s roots in being “American.”  I for one will support American made cars only, and will encourage my large family to do the same.  Just in my own family we have over $400,000 thousand dollars worth of American built cars and trucks.  There are some bumper stickers out there that read “Out of a job yet?  Keep buying foreign!”  People are starting to find out just how true that is.  The American auto industry touches alot more people, than just those on the assembly lines.  When you drive a foreign brand vehicle you are “thumbing” your nose at your fellow Americans that forged the “Industrial Revolution” that led to middle class prosperity for countless millions of people.  Why support the economy of foreign nations, as we sink into the abyss of unemployment and welfare?  Personnally I hope “Baseball, hot dogs, apple-pie, and Chevrolet” are around for a long long time, along with Chrysler and Fords.  Lets keep it the “Big Three!”

I love a good chili dog myself. Have to have cheese and onions though.

I think since we are in such a global economy its tough to know what is actually made in America. I hate to see manufacturing jobs leave the U.S. …Michigan especially. I think the key to buying and supporting US jobs from the automobile industry is looking at where it was assembled, where the engine was made, and where the transmission was made. One point that everyone can follow (at least if buying a new car) is to read a vehicle’s window sticker. U.S. automakers are legally required to detail the origin of a car’s parts and its final assembly point, whether they are a foreign or domestic brand.

Happy 4th of July and buy American!!!

I have to agree with Grant, Mike. I am totally for supporting American built anything, but in this day and age it’s hard to distinguish what is American made. Toyotas have just as many parts made in America as a GM car you buy for pete’s sake; and it’s a sad day when the only American-made car on the NASCAR circuit is……you guessed it, a Toyota.

I think for now that I’m going to stick with buying FORD vehicles; at least they aren’t “borrowing” our hard earned tax dollars.

You make a great point. I am trying to start a business using a product that we are creating and it needs to be built out of parts that we have to buy. I REALLY want this to be a made in America product so we are going to lengths to verify that every part is manufactured in the Greatest Country on God’s Green Earth, but we have come across one piece that NO ONE in the U.S. manufactures any more. If we want it, we have to buy it from China, period. And that sucks! I am trying to figure out how to put that on the label…”Nearly Made in the U.S.A.”, or “Made in the U.S.A., practically”. It just stinks.

You both are right when it comes to us being in a global economy, but the playing field is not level when it comes to “tariffs, regulations, and the amount of our cars foreign governments allow into their countries. American made products are limited in foreign markets. When you buy a Ford, Chrysler, or General Motors vehicle the profit from that sale stays here in this country. Where do you think the profit goes when a KIA or Dahwoo (or others) are sold? No matter how much domestic content the foreign owned companies have, the profit returns to the economy of that country.

  5. Hey Mike,
I must say I have a problem saying no to those tube steaks as well. As for GM hasn’t the name been changed to Government Motors Corporation? Or something like that?
I actually just bought the wife a Malibu and she loves it as for me I have a Dodge and its been a bit of lemon for me so far.
