Hey Mike,
I must say I have a problem saying no to those tube steaks as well. As for GM hasn't the name been changed to Government Motors Corporation? Or something like that?
I actually just bought the wife a Malibu and she loves it as for me I have a Dodge and its been a bit of lemon for me so far.

You both are right when it comes to us being in a global economy, but the playing field is not level when it comes to "tariffs, regulations, and the amount of our cars foreign governments allow into their countries. American made products are limited in foreign markets. When you buy a Ford, Chrysler, or General Motors vehicle the profit from that sale stays here in this country. Where do you think the profit goes when a KIA or Dahwoo (or others) are sold? No matter how much domestic content the foreign owned companies have, the profit returns to the economy of that country.

You make a great point. I am trying to start a business using a product that we are creating and it needs to be built out of parts that we have to buy. I REALLY want this to be a made in America product so we are going to lengths to verify that every part is manufactured in the Greatest Country on God's Green Earth, but we have come across one piece that NO ONE in the U.S. manufactures any more. If we want it, we have to buy it from China, period. And that sucks! I am trying to figure out how to put that on the label..."Nearly Made in the U.S.A.", or "Made in the U.S.A., practically". It just stinks.

I have to agree with Grant, Mike. I am totally for supporting American built anything, but in this day and age it's hard to distinguish what is American made. Toyotas have just as many parts made in America as a GM car you buy for pete's sake; and it's a sad day when the only American-made car on the NASCAR circuit is......you guessed it, a Toyota.

I think for now that I'm going to stick with buying FORD vehicles; at least they aren't "borrowing" our hard earned tax dollars.

I love a good chili dog myself. Have to have cheese and onions though.

I think since we are in such a global economy its tough to know what is actually made in America. I hate to see manufacturing jobs leave the U.S. ...Michigan especially. I think the key to buying and supporting US jobs from the automobile industry is looking at where it was assembled, where the engine was made, and where the transmission was made. One point that everyone can follow (at least if buying a new car) is to read a vehicle's window sticker. U.S. automakers are legally required to detail the origin of a car's parts and its final assembly point, whether they are a foreign or domestic brand.

Happy 4th of July and buy American!!!
